Review of the e*thirteen DH Cranks & PF30 Bottom Bracket
    Thursday, July 28, 2011 @ 6:04 pm
    Posted by Nic

The e*thirteen PF30 BB should be available very shortly and e*thirteen will be the first brand to offer a solution to the woes of Demo owners who are struggling with moving adapters. Regardless of this, these new cranks represent a brand so firmly associated with the chainguide market, one which they happen to dominate quite considerably and taking their unique approach to component design and lesson learned, applying it to cranks where the design ethos is carried over to good effect.

Does the market need another mounting system? I don’t think so in all honesty, but the PF30 is here and I’m pretty sure it’s here to stay; at least for a while anyway and at the end of the day it works and works pretty well. Using presses to install headsets hasn’t caused too much of an issue over the years and like anything new, it will surely become the norm and become nothing more than ‘standard’, but I can’t help but be slightly frustrated that a tool as specialist and as expensive as a headset press is required for installation? This kind of takes away the ‘home mechanics’ ability to strip and rebuild their bike and may ultimately lead to a cheap tool or maybe some instructions on the web on how to make your own…..

On to the Polygon Interface; well, this is cool no matter how you look at it and using the wavy washer and dropping the pinch bolts, combined with the excellent aesthetic finish and engineering qualities of these cranks all add up to some pretty special cranks. I think this reason alone is enough to consider them over the competition. So what is the competition and how do these fare? Well, against the popular and virtually de-rigeur Shimano Saints, they’re roughly a similar weight, but your paying another £50 for the privilege of being different with these bad boys coming in at £260 for the cranks, BB and chainring bolts. This is by no means cheap, but considering the features and uniqueness these have, it’s no surprise I’m seeing more and more at the trails.

SF Urban Riders build Pump Track for 2010 SF Bike Expo
    Thursday, July 28, 2011 @ 5:30 pm

SF Urban Riders spent the weekend of Oct. 30 building a pump track for the 2010 bike expo at the Cow Palace. A skeleton crew tweaked the track over the next week to have it ready for the November 6 event. About 200 people rode it that day. By mid-morning on Sunday, heavy rain had turned the track back into the mud hole we started with. Shouldn’t we have a permanent facility like this in San Francisco?

The helmet is sort of a cross between a full faced and normal design, offering excellent rear and side coverage, supreme comfort, and some unique features, especially in regard to safety. It uses the industry standard In-mold EPS foam construction, with a durable high gloss outer polycarbonate shell, and meet the US and European certification standards. It features a flexible visor, eight venting hole, and comes in a wide range of colors, two sizes (Sm/Md and Lg/X-Lg) and weighs in at 300 grams. Urge Bike Products is based out of Cogolin, France, and is co-owned by multiple time World Champion Fabien Barrel, who also does product testing and development for the company. I tested the L-XL Flash Sand model.
The Urge Endur-o-Matic helmet is an extremely comfortable helmet, and was easy to wear for long periods of time. The inner shape and supple padding feel proper, and it seems to be shaped like your head, cupping it, almost like your wearing a skull cap, without any bind or pinch spots. Like any helmet, their last or mold might not fit your particular head, so always try and get a test fit if possible.

Meet Bobby McMullen This Friday in Seattle
    Tuesday, July 12, 2011 @ 4:28 pm
    Posted by Nic

“An hour of utterly compelling viewing that will have you in agonizing, nail-biting anticipation.” -Spoke Magazine

The Way Bobby Sees It is a gripping documentary about Bobby McMullen, a competitive mountain biker on a mission to race the most demanding downhill course in the country. Adding to the difficulty: Bobby is blind.

With the help of a guide and a rigorous training schedule, Bobby is determined to race his bike down a course riddled with obstacles and flanked by steep, life-threatening cliffs. But, the racecourse isn’t the only challenge in Bobby’s life. Between thrills, spills and jaw dropping helmet camera footage, we see how Bobby uses humor, determination, and unshakeable optimism to battle adversity – both on and off the bike.

This special showing includes audio description for people with visual impairments as well as captioning for those with hearing difficulty.

The film will be followed by a short talk and Q&A with Bobby. Don’t miss this chance to hear his incredible story!

Brought to you by the Cascade Bicycle Club in partnership with Outdoors for All and the Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance.

Behind Bars Inc. brings you: SHINY SIDE UP 2011

Our show grows each year, gaining more support from local clubs, vendors, spectators and sponsors. As foot traffic increased at each event, we decided it was time to secure a venue that would accommodate our future shows. History Park, San Jose is the perfect fit, with a relaxed small town vibe. So, tell your family, invite your friends, bring your kids, help spread the word on the streets and on Facebook. Our supporters are the reason we strive to deliver a bigger and better show each year.
We look forward to seeing you there!
