Richmond Spokes is a 501 (c) 3 entrepreneurial youth training program located in Richmond, California. We empower young entrepreneurs to design, plan, market and execute their ideas. Youth participants in Richmond Spokes provide local, national, and international cyclists with professional bicycle services, sales and accessories. Our staff consists of cycle cultured adults who partner with youth participants to make Richmond greener, safer and more sustainable city. Through Education, Empowerment, Employment, and Engagement Richmond Spokes encourages self-sufficiency, job skill training, educational opportunities, and a culture of stewards who use cycling and sustainable transportation to enable physical, personal, and professional mobility.
Mission
Richmond Spokes empowers, engages, and employs youth through cycling and green industries that benefit our local community. By creating a new youth cycling industry which embodies youth skills development and green entrepreneurship, Richmond Spokes guides each participant to improve their life and the health of our local and global environment.
Vision
We believe that youth entrepreneurs are capable of creating businesses, opportunities for personal growth, advocacy and local and global stewardship for themselves and their community. We envision a Richmond that encourages cycling as an alternative to driving and builds sustainable green infrastructure. Through Richmond SPOKES youth gain access to mentors, green jobs, mobility, accountability, and community partnerships – becoming the link that reconnects Richmond to the greater San Francisco Bay Area. Through direct mentorship and hands on training in our BART accessible bike shop and retail venue, participants learn to set and archive goals that enhance their business skills, work ethic, physical activity, community, creativity, and sense of purpose. Through immersion in the cycling culture, innovative internships and exchange programs Richmond SPOKES exposes Richmond youth to the local and international cycling industry opening doors and developing replicable and transferable business models.
